Old Sow Whirlpool
We went into this Campground twice and tried to witness the Old Sow Whirlpool as shown on the Youtube videos. It seems the weather has to be just right and just at mid rising tide for the effect. We certainly saw whirlpools...but nothing like the ones on YouTube.
Located between Eastport, Maine and Deer Island, Canada, this whirlpool bubbles and churns due to strong tides and dramatic changes in the depth of the sea floor. It can move up to a 1/2 mile depending on the phase of the moon and the height of the tide.
